Rajesh J. Asarpota, Grad ’90
Nashville, Tenn.
As chief financial officer for Augmedics, Rajesh Asarpota is working to make an innovative new technology standard of care for spine surgery. The company has developed augmented reality tools that give spine surgeons the ability to see a patient’s spine as if they have X-ray vision. The result is more precise surgeries.
“Being associated with disruptive technology, working with brilliant teammates and helping shape the health care landscape is a source of tremendous pride for me,” Rajesh says.
The Ignatian values drawn from his time on campus remain important in his life. “Practicing servant leadership has been important to my success and a philosophy I try to impart upon those that I can influence,” he says. And reflection and discernment are still key practices for him, helping him “emerge better through trying times.”
Rajesh defines success as “being able to raise and take care of family by being a good husband and father,” he says. Maintaining strong relationships “remains a guiding principle in my life.”
Looking back, he feels gratitude for Joe Fox, assistant dean of MBA programs when Rajesh was a student. “As an immigrant and international student in a pre-internet era, it was tough navigating campus life and school in a new city and country,” Rajesh says. “Joe was a great guide and counsel during those trying and exciting times.”
Fun Facts:
What is one of your favorite Marquette memories?
During my first year, as time passed from a Milwaukee winter to spring, I was surprised and amused by students sunbathing on campus in 40-degree weather. Growing up in a tropical climate, I couldn't comprehend … [this] behavior. Of course, years later, I now do the same thing!
Name someone (past or present) with whom you'd like to have dinner.
My grandfather (my father's father) passed away when I was only 6 years old. I would love to have dinner with him and get to know and learn from him.
