Golden-BeckmannDistinguished Alumna of the Year Award
Dr. Patricia F. Golden-Beckmann, Arts ’95
Franklin, Wis.

When Dr. Patricia Golden arrived on campus in 1991, she was following in the footsteps of her father, Martin, Arts ’71. Since his death in 2021, Patty has felt his absence deeply. “He was passionate about social justice, an avid reader, and loved having deep and meaningful conversations,” Patty remembers. When he died, she found the Prayer of St. Ignatius tucked neatly in his wallet. “He lived his life with purpose,” she says.

HuProfessional Achievement Award
Dr. Songzhou Hu, Grad ’91
Princeton, N.J.

When asked how he defines success, Dr. Songzhou Hu says that simply arriving on Marquette’s campus felt like success. He grew up in rural China during the cultural revolution, where he attended schools that lacked textbooks. He credits the late James Kincaid, professor emeritus of chemistry and former chair of the department of chemistry, for making his studies at Marquette possible.

Pardeep S. Kaleka, Arts ’00
Milwaukee, Wis.

On Sunday morning, August 5, 2012, a white supremacist entered the Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis., and opened fire, killing seven people and wounding four others. Pardeep Kaleka’s father was one of the people killed that day. In the aftermath of this traumatic loss, Pardeep responded with uncommon forgiveness and a sense of purpose.

Elizabeth Warmuth Ryan, Arts ’08 and Stephen J. Ryan, Jr., Arts ’08 u 
Western Springs, Ill.

When Beth and Steve Ryan met at Marquette’s Manresa Project’s Christian Leadership Retreat just before their freshman orientation, they could not have predicted where life would take them. Today the couple has been married for 12 years, has three daughters, and runs RyTech, LLC, a digital marketing agency, with offices in Chicago and Milwaukee.
