Service Award

BocheFabiola Torres Boche, H Sci ’08, Grad ’09 u
New Berlin, Wis.

As a Milwaukee native, Fabiola Boche knew Marquette University had a well-known reputation for stellar education. She did not, however, grow up knowing or seeing many Latinos enrolled in higher education, much less in health care. Now a physician assistant working in gastroenterology, Fabiola is thrilled to be able to mentor the next generation of health care students and provide needed representation as a successful Latina in health care.

Fabiola has devoted her life, both personally and professionally, to service. She worked in urgent care and community health as a member of the National Health Service Corps, which tries to meet the needs of medically underserved communities. Fabiola believes it is a blessing to be able to serve others through working in health care. She treasures the significant impacts she can make in a patient’s life. Fabiola is also a servant leader at her church, where she is a catechist working with kindergarteners. She loves the way the kids remind her of the simple concepts of her faith.

Fabiola also serves as a mentor in the Marquette Mentors program, interacting with undergraduate students who are interested in health care and the physician assistant profession. She enjoys the opportunity to work with and motivate the students, especially students of color. Fabiola values the chance to reach a generation and population that she might not have crossed paths with otherwise.

She credits Marquette for instilling in her the necessity of service to others. Fabiola has learned that even small deeds make a big difference, and her personal goal is to continue to use her gifts to try to serve others.

Name someone (past or present) with whom you’d like to have dinner.
My grandmother. She had such wise words and loved her family dearly.

Which is one of your favorite Marquette memories?
My favorite memories are reflecting on midterm and finals week when you are so overwhelmed with studying but also somehow find time to meet your friends on the bridge or in the union to laugh, relax and clear your head. It was always comforting to know we were all in the same boat, wanting to reach our goals.

Leave a congratulatory message for Fabiola!
