Dr. Mary Matteucci Ouimet, Nurs ’86, Grad ’15
Kenosha, Wis.

After 15 years as the chief nursing officer in a hospital setting, Dr. Mary Ouimet took on a new professional challenge, becoming chief executive officer of the Kenosha (Wisconsin) Community Health Center just as the COVID-19 pandemic struck the United States.

GomezService Award
Mary Astor Gomez, Nurs ’82
Glenview, Ill.

Her skill as a Marquette nurse has given Mary Gomez a diverse four-decade career that has often involved caring for young and vulnerable patients. She has worked in a neonatal intensive care unit, served in the Nurse Corps of the U.S. Naval Reserves, provided critical care to neonatal and pediatric patients on ambulance and helicopter transports and traveled to Haiti and El Salvador to offer remote care as a pediatric nurse practitioner.

Kelsey E. Schmitt, Nurs ’05, Grad ’23
Vernon Hills, Ill.

Kelsey Schmitt wanted a career in health care from the time she was eight, inspired by the medical team that cared for her when she underwent a surgery that year. Marquette has been central in making that dream a reality and in helping Kelsey excel as a nurse leader.
