Entrepreneurial Award
John R. Dwyer, Jr., Bus Ad ’78
Potomac, Md.
A long-time business leader and health care entrepreneur, John R. Dwyer is committed to discovering therapies for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. He is president and co-founder of the Global Alzheimer’s Platform (GAP) Foundation, a nonprofit that runs clinical trials with the goal of “speeding cures to patients afflicted with this insidious disease.”
He previously co-founded Us Against Alzheimer’s, a patient advocacy group focused on changing the way Alzheimer’s is addressed in the United States, as well as the first political action committee focused on a specific disease, the Alzheimer’s Action PAC.
Before the GAP Foundation, John launched Telcare, a high-technology manufacturer of the first wirelessly enabled blood glucose meter — designed to help people with diabetes better manage their disease — which was ultimately sold to Phillips. He also founded CodeRyte, an early user of AI to generate physician bills from their dictated notes, which was ultimately acquired by 3M.
John first became a CEO at the age of 30 and has held C-level roles in six emerging growth companies in the health care industry.
After graduating from Marquette, John attended Cornell Law School. He began his career as an attorney in Washington, D.C., where he specialized in transactions in regulated industries.
John is married to Susan Buckingham, a graduate of Marquette’s College of Arts and Sciences; they have a son, Sean.
