Young Alumnus of the Year Award
Stanley Nunoo, Bus Ad ’09 u
New York, N.Y.
Stanley Nunoo has clearly taken the Marquette values of excellence and service to heart. He’s not only a successful portfolio manager with BlackRock, but he’s also actively guiding young people from underrepresented communities toward jobs on Wall Street.
He has been involved in Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) for 15 years, first as a participant himself, then as a student mentor, and now as the partner firm lead for BlackRock. Over 6,000 young people, each year, throughout the United Sates are served by SEO's mission to create a more equitable society by closing the academic and career opportunity gap for students from underserved communities. “Witnessing their journeys firsthand as a mentor is incredibly rewarding,” Stanley says. “I'm proud to play a role in their success.”
From his very first day at Marquette, when he moved onto the CommUNITY floor in McCormick Hall, his years on campus shaped his sense that success involves working for the good of the broader community . “Marquette's commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment equipped me with a broader perspective, enhancing my interpersonal skills and cultural competency,” he says.
He thinks fondly of his classes with David Krause, associate professor of practice emeritus of finance, and founder of the Applied Investment Management program. “He consistently emphasized the importance of integrity in the financial industry,” Stanley recalls, “reminding us that every decision carries a weight of responsibility toward clients, communities, and ourselves.”
Today, Stanley is also an angel investor and advisor to U.S. startups at the intersection of sports and technology. “It's thrilling to be part of ventures that are pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the world of sports,” he says. “I believe these investments have the potential to not only revolutionize the industry but also create positive social impact.”
Fun Facts:
Name someone (past or present) with whom you’d like to have dinner:
“Kobe Bryant. His legendary work ethic, relentless pursuit of excellence and dedication to mastering his craft were truly inspiring. As a fellow ‘Girl Dad,’ I also admired his love and support for his daughters, demonstrating that strength and vulnerability can coexist beautifully.”
Why did you choose to attend Marquette?
Originally from the Chicago suburbs, Stanley says Marquette was the perfect distance away: far enough to give him independence but close enough, he wryly notes, to run home with large loads of laundry.
Leave a congratulatory message for Stanley!
