Distinguished Alumnus in Dentistry Award

AndrewsPaul A. Andrews, D.D.S., Ph.D., Dent ’74
Lake Mary, Fla.

When Paul Andrews, D.D.S., Ph.D., visits Milwaukee, he likes to stop at Marquette’s original Dental School building and a familiar classroom on the second floor. “I sit down in seat two, my seat,” Paul explains, “and I say a prayer of thanksgiving and gratitude that Marquette University thought enough of me to accept me as a student.”

When he arrived on campus in 1970, this Elkhorn, Wisconsin, native had already served six years in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. He quickly bonded with classmates who were also military veterans. After graduation, he spent another four years in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps, and then established his own practice treating patients with TMJ disorders and craniofacial pain.

His wife, Patricia, has been his practice administrator from the very beginning. “We started together in 1978 and are still working as a team to this very day,” Paul explains.

Committed to the value of service, Paul donates his time and expertise to the Wounded Veterans Relief Service, aiding disabled veterans who need dental care. And in 2017, Paul and Patricia pledged a transformational gift to the Marquette School of Dentistry to establish scholarships for dental students who served in the military or are the children of veterans.

Those years in seat two launched a distinguished career of fifty years and counting. “When I was told that I was going to receive this award, every moment in my career flashed before my eyes,” Paul says. “I’m grateful for the privilege of attending the Marquette School of Dentistry.”
