YangDr. Michael X. Yang, Grad ’91, ’03
Bergen County, N.J.

Following his passion to create novel medical solutions that serve to improve quality of care and patient outcomes, Dr. Michael Yang has been working in the medical device industry for the last thirty years. From interventional cardiology, pacemaker and ICD electrode designs, catheter design and manufacturing to orthopedic implants and neurosurgical products, Michael’s influence in the medical field is far reaching and only continues to grow.

Having previously held leadership positions at Integra LifeSciences, Cardiovascular Systems, Inc., Johnson & Johnson and Abbot Labs, Michael is currently senior vice president of research & development with PDI Healthcare, a leader in prevention of healthcare-associated infections. “My long-term career goals always center around identifying unmet medical needs and creating solutions to improve patients’ quality of life and wellbeing,” he says.

The diversity of Michael’s interests can be attributed to his belief that, “success is a continuous process of learning new things and renewing oneself, to contribute to the collective good.”

Although he wears a lot of different hats, Michael says that Marquette’s mission is the common thread that runs through all his work. “The dedication and spirit of Marquette's faculty have had a profound impact on my life. My faith always helps me recalibrate the purpose of my life, including my career goals and objectives,” he says. “It helps me persevere when facing challenges and obstacles in my career. I always strive to lead with an attitude of serving and empowering others to achieve our goals.”

What is one of your favorite Marquette memories?
My son Alan was born on the day of a mid-term exam. “I rushed to finish my exam, ran to Mount Sinai Hospital, and was just in time for his delivery.”
