PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Dr. Nunzio A. Gaglianello, H Sci ’02 u
New Berlin, Wis.
As a board-certified cardiologist at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Nunzio Gaglianello specializes in advanced heart failure and has gained a wide range of experience in the care of patients with heart failure, assist devices and heart transplantation. Along with caring for his own patients with all etiologies of heart failure and cardiomyopathy, he finds the time to help shape the careers of future doctors.
In addition to caring for his patients, Nunzio serves as associate professor of medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin and is program director for the cardiovascular medicine fellowship. “I find mentoring trainees and guiding them the most fruitful part of my career thus far,” he says.
For Nunzio, professional success is a process of commitment to your goals and attempting to improve the environment in which you work. In the end, however, he feels that personal success matters much more. “That involves being present with my family, taking care of myself mentally, physically and spiritually, and learning what really matters in life,” he says.
What matters to Nunzio is continuing to live the Marquette mission. “My wife says I have a strict moral code. I have strong principles, and I am willing to stick up for them. I also truly try to respect and learn from other people I encounter on my career path. I’ve learned through my education and faith that, at the end of the day, we are all humans, and all have our individual challenges and goals on this life journey,” he says.
