DISTINGUISHED ALUMNA OF THE YEAR AWARD
Julia Lehr Creamer, Nurs ’80
Dallas, Texas
Julie Creamer was recently named president of Baylor Scott & White Health in Texas. Through this role, Julie focuses on the health system’s clinical, operational and information services functions. Every day is a new opportunity for Julie to make a difference for someone else, as she embodies what it means to be a woman for others.
Her nursing career began more than forty years ago as an intensive care staff nurse. As someone who’s always looking to change the world for the better, her career advanced over the years most recently serving as the president of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital and Northwestern Medicine South Region. There she enhanced patient safety and vastly improved innovative technology in health care and actively supported the academic mission within the health care system at Northwestern, providing a platform to set the next generation of health care heroes up for success.
Julie knows the importance of developing professional relationships right off the bat. She got off on the right foot at Marquette largely in part because of Sister Rosalie Klein, who was the Dean of the Nursing School when she transferred into the program as a sophomore. Without her unconditional support Julie wouldn’t be where she is today, and she pays it forward by mentoring youth.
Julie of course draws on lessons she learned in Marquette classrooms, but what sets her apart as a nurse are the lessons she learned after hours. Julie approaches everything she does with an open mind and heart; she isn’t afraid of pushing the boundaries to be a part of the greater good. These life lessons set her up for success and transformed her into the person she is today.
Name someone (past or present) with whom you'd like to have dinner.
I would love to cook a dinner with Julia Child. We would both invite lots of friends and family.
What is one of your favorite Marquette memories?
Winning the 1977 NCAA basketball championship. Hard to top that!
Leave a congratulatory message for Julie!
