The Association of Marquette University Women invites you to join us for Spring Book Club. Join Marquette alumni and friends for an evening to discuss Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell. Set in 16th century England, this work of historical fiction imagines the emotional, domestic and artistic repercussions of an outbreak of bubonic plague on playwright William Shakespeare and his family.
We will hear from Dr. Lezlie Knox, chair of Marquette’s History Department, as she discusses “The New Histories of Old Disease.” Dr. Knox, whose areas of study include the Black Death, will offer historical context for the novel to get the discussion started.
This event is free and open to the public.
