JAMES T. TIEDGE MEMORIAL AWARD
David A. Amoroso, Jour ’86, Grad ’91
Wauwatosa, Wis.
Dave has worked in public relations for nearly 35 years -- the majority of his career spent at the same agency -- and he finds as much joy in his craft today as he did when he was a student.
The vice president of Ron Sonntag Public Relations appreciates the variety of his work, from writing news release copy to pitching media stories to counseling clients. Dave has been with the company since March of 1998, and he plans to continue there until he retires, whenever that may be.
Always reliable in his work ethic, Dave takes pride in every achievement, whether that’s producing an ad that audiences love or simply hearing a client say thank you. “I want to be counted on as completing what I say I’m going to do,” he says.
Marquette public relations instructor Bill Baxter initially sparked Dave's desire to pursue a career in the field. “Because of his enthusiasm and passion, I knew after the first class that PR was going to be my vocation,” he says. Bill mentored Dave as an undergraduate and graduate student and even into his career. When in doubt, Dave still thinks back to Bill’s teaching and advice for guidance.
Dave strives for excellence in everything he takes on, and he’s humbled that his alma mater has recognized what he’s accomplished throughout his career. “Marquette has held a special place in my heart since I was young. Being honored this way is a tribute that I will cherish,” he says.
Fun Fact:
Dave put off taking the required Film 046 editing class until the second semester of his senior year, but it ended up being one of his favorite courses. “To this day, coordinating video production for clients is one of my favorite communications activities,” he says.
