PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

WenningerWilliam J. Wenninger, PT ’80
Greenfield, Wis.

If he could choose anyone in history as his dinner guest, Bill would select Abraham Lincoln. “His insight on leadership through very difficult times would be fascinating to discuss,” he says. Leading in difficult physical therapy situations is something Bill does every day as Rehabilitation Planning Specialist for the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA).

Bill, who defines success as consistency and progress toward a goal, continues to work toward his own goals at the DVA. “In the short term, I would like to continue to strengthen the programs I run. In the long term, I want to assure a smooth transition to new leadership and help make sure physical therapy continues to have a significant presence here.”

In his work, Bill lives the Marquette values of excellence, faith, leadership and service through reviewing situations and setting a course of action that is fair and consistent. “I learned to listen to ensure that issues are fully understood, and I am willing to consult with others. My Marquette experience prepared me to properly assess situations and search for answers that are appropriate, whether that be in patient care or in health care administrative processes,” he says.

Bill is happy his work has been acknowledged at the university, while also feeling “humbled to be chosen to receive this award, as there are so many deserving graduates of this institution.”

Fun Fact:

Bill has worked at more than 30 wheelchair games.
